Seadune, Thorpness
Manalo & White have gained planning permission for a new two-storey house to replace an ageing shack with a spectacular location touching the beach. To minimise the increase in scale the lower floor is sunk into the dune with a concrete retaining wall detailed to resemble the simple concrete walls and fences that are a feature of the village. The upper floor is a slatted wooden enclosure weaving together external terraces and interior spaces. A considered sustainability strategy encompasses biomass boiler heating, natural ventilation and passive solar design.
